PETALING JAYA: Malaysia bagged the most improved team award for the 2008-2009 A1 Grand Prix season in an online poll conducted recently on the A1GP.com website. Malaysia finished sixth in the championship standings, a vast improvement from a dismal 15th last season.

Driver Fairuz Fauzy (pic) started the season well, taking victory in Zandvoort, Holland, to become the second Malaysian after Alex Yoong to win a race in the series. Fairuz also took podium in third place in Algarve, Portugal. The chief executive of the team, Jack Cunningham, was delighted with the award and thanked the fans for recognising their achievements.

“As a team, we have worked hard to make improvements, strengthening ourselves in some areas, putting in as much preparation as we could pre-season and maintaining the focus and commitment throughout it,” he said.

“Both Fairuz and rookie Aaron Lim have contributed to our success and we hope to be among the top five teams next season.”

The 2009-10 season opening races will be held at the Gold Coast in Australia in October.
