Depression is a real illness, with real causes, and real symptoms to help you recognize it.
Since we're all different, symptoms may vary widely from person to person.
Not everyone will have all the symptoms, not everyone will have the same symptoms.
But the symptoms usually affect your daily functioning and the symptoms persist.
Symptoms
- Loss of interest or pleasure in activities you used to enjoy, such as hobbies or sex
- Feeling unusually sad or irritable
- Sleep disturbance, such as trouble falling asleep, waking up too early, or oversleeping
- Decreased ability to concentrate
- Changes in appetite
- Feeling more tired than usual
- Feeling of guilt or worthlessness
- Restless or slowed activity noticed by other people
- Thoughts about suicide or death
